Planet named after Azerbaijani poet Imadaddin Nasimi on initiative of BEU employee

According to the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, in connection with the 650th anniversary of the celebrated Azerbaijani poet and thinker Imadaddin Nasimi, the International Astronomical Union (AIU) has ruled a decision to name a planet after the poet. 

    The relevant application was filed by Eyyub Guliyev, Azerbaijani astronomer, the member of AIU, correspondent member of ANAS and the professor of Baku Engineering University.

    The minor planet named in honor of Nasimi is designated 32939 Nasimi, and its motion zone is in an asteroid junction between the Mars and Jupiter. The planet was discovered by the Czech astronomers at Klet’ Observatory on October 24, 1995 and was known with its provisional name UN2. It was observed 807 times in various observatories around the world.

   It should be noted that Professor Eyyub Guliyev is the author of 165 scientific works as well as scientific achievements such as “Kometlərin tədqiqi: Çoxsaylı qanunauyğunluqlar bir sıra hipotez və nəzəriyyələr” (Investigation of Comets: Multiple Laws, Several Hypotheses and Theories).
