Seminar dedicated to issues of application of the Azerbaijani language held at BEU

A seminar titled "State language policy and issues of application of the Azerbaijani language" was held under the organization of the Department of Azerbaijani Language and Pedagogy at Baku Engineering University (BEU).

The event was attended by staff members of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), the university's faculty members, and students.

In his speech, Aghasi Malikov, Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation at BEU, spoke about the state care given to the development of the Azerbaijani language in our country. Attention was drawn to the policy implemented by National Leader Heydar Aliyev and President Ilham Aliyev in the direction of protection and development of the mother tongue, and the important documents they signed. Highlighting the tasks put forward by President Ilham Aliyev at the 80th anniversary event of ANAS, the Vice-Rector noted that these assignments are of special importance in terms of protection, development, and scientific-based teaching of the mother tongue. Aghasi Malikov emphasized the importance of every citizen knowing their native language perfectly, regardless of where they live or work.

Tarana Hajiyeva, Head of the Department of Azerbaijani Language and Pedagogy, noted that countless languages exist in the world, but not all of them can survive. She spoke about the factors ensuring the survival of a language—language purity, correct use, scientific approach to language, the role of pedagogical staff and philologists at universities, as well as the responsibilities of young people. She noted that protection of the mother tongue in our country is an integral part of state policy, and continuous monitoring is carried out in this direction.

At the seminar, speeches were delivered by Baba Maharramli, Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs at the Institute of Linguistics of ANAS, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor; Nariman Seyidaliyev, Chief Researcher of the Institute's Applied Linguistics Department, Doctor of Philological Sciences; Sevinc Aliyeva, Head of the Monitoring and Linguistic Analysis Department, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor of ANAS; Gulara Amirova, Leading Researcher of the department, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor; and Kamala Mustafayeva, anchor at the Analysis and Information Center of REAL television. The speakers stated that language is the fundamental value expressing the existence and national identity of a nation. The speeches also emphasized the importance of work carried out in the direction of protection, application, monitoring, and promotion of the Azerbaijani language against the backdrop of globalization's effects.

At the event, BEU students Esmira Ibrahimova and Shovkat Karimov recited poems by People's Poet Bakhtiyar Vahabzadeh dedicated to the mother tongue.

At the end, recommendations were given to young people regarding protection of the Azerbaijani language from foreign influences, increasing reading habits, and promotion of the language.
