BEU Hosts Presentation of IDDA's "Open Data Portal"

An information session dedicated to the opportunities for using open data of the Innovation and Digital Development Agency (IDDA) was held at Baku Engineering University (BEU).

At the event, organized by the BEU Technopark, Mayis Azizov, Head of the Science and Innovation Department of the university, drew attention to the importance of open data in scientific research, the teaching process and the development of innovative projects. He noted the importance of identifying the open data needs of the university's academic and innovation community, as well as exploring opportunities for cooperation with IDDA in this field.

Khanim Rahmanova, Project Manager at the Innovation Policy and Strategy Management Division of the Innovation Ecosystem Department of IDDA, delivered a presentation on the agency's "Open Data Portal." It was stated that the creation of the portal is one of the important steps taken in the field of digital development in the country. The presentation provided information about the concept of open data, the main characteristics of this data and the functional capabilities of the portal. It was noted that one of the main characteristics of open datasets is that they are provided in a complete form that is suitable for reuse. By facilitating the process of obtaining and subsequently using data, the portal centralizes data from various fields in a unified format. Currently, 2021 datasets in 12 categories, collected from various state bodies, have been placed on the portal. The platform's target audience includes a wide group of users, including university lecturers, researchers, students and representatives of the startup ecosystem.

Khanim Rahmanova drew attention to the fact that one of the important components of the portal is the data request mechanism. It was stated that the data that university lecturers and researchers need for scientific research, and that students and staff need for startups and innovative projects, are of special importance in this regard.

At the event, which continued in an interactive format, participants' questions were answered and their proposals and recommendations were heard. The identification of data required for scientific research, the teaching process and innovative projects, opportunities for using open data and prospects for cooperation in this area were widely discussed.

The information session was organized in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Quality Education), 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
