Rector Meets with Students of BUCT-BEU Faculty of Engineering
October 21, 2026
A meeting was held with the first students admitted for the 2026/2027 academic year to the BUCT-BEU Faculty of Engineering, jointly established by Baku Engineering University (BEU) and Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT), one of the leading higher education institutions of the People's Republic of China.
Yagub Piriyev, Rector of BEU, congratulated the first students of the newly established faculty and emphasized that this stage is a significant event for them.
In his speech, the Rector said that the relations between President Ilham Aliyev and Chairman of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping, based on mutual respect and trust, create an important foundation for the development of the strategic partnership between the two countries, including the expansion of cooperation in the fields of education and science. He emphasized that the abolition of the visa regime between the two countries opens new opportunities in terms of increasing the academic mobility of students and teachers, expanding international experience exchange and strengthening ties. At the same time, he expressed confidence that this favorable environment will contribute to the further development of cooperation between BEU and BUCT, the integration of students into the international academic environment, and the implementation of new educational initiatives.
Referring to the results of the faculty’s inaugural admission process, Yaqub Piriyev commended the fact that all available places had been filled and that the admitted students had achieved high scores. It was noted that students had been admitted to four programmes: Computer Science, Chemistry, Biotechnology, and Mechanical Engineering, with more than half of the admitted students scoring above 500 points in the entrance examinations.
Yagub Piriyev noted that, within the dual degree program implemented on the basis of the 3+1 model, students will study at BEU for the first three years and at BUCT for the final year. Graduates who successfully complete the educational program will be awarded the diplomas of both universities. The organization of the teaching process with the participation of highly qualified faculty from both higher education institutions will give students the opportunity to benefit from international academic experience and acquire modern engineering knowledge and practical skills.
The Rector emphasized the importance of students representing Azerbaijan with dignity during their studies in China. He also expressed confidence that, as unofficial ambassadors, the young people will contribute to promoting our country's national and spiritual values and conveying the truth about Azerbaijan to the international community.
At the meeting, Yagub Piriyev held a cordial conversation with the students, inquired about their studies, the new educational environment and their future goals, and listened to their views and expectations. Offering recommendations to the young people, the Rector wished them success in their studies and expressed confidence that they will direct the knowledge and skills they acquire toward the development of our country.
